Construction work is set to begin soon on Main Street in Lucan.
The Township of Lucan Biddulph says a sidewalk reconstruction project is expected to start around May 11th, depending on weather and scheduling. The work will take place along Main Street between Alice Street and Market Street.
Officials say all downtown businesses will remain open during construction, and residents are encouraged to continue shopping local.
Work will begin on the north side of the street, where sidewalks will be removed and replaced. Temporary gravel walkways will be put in place so people can still access stores. Pedestrian access will continue, but may be limited for those with accessibility needs during parts of the project.
There will also be some short-term disruptions. Market Street at Main will close for one day, with advance notice shared online. Freshly poured sidewalks will reopen after about 24 hours.
Drivers may notice temporary changes to parking and access near local businesses, including the BMO area. These changes are expected to last about five to seven days during certain stages of the work. The Municipal and Post Office parking lot will always have at least one entrance open, and extra parking will be available on nearby streets. The township says no parking tickets will be issued during this time.
The tunnel will also close to vehicles for a short period, but pedestrian access will still be available using a nearby route.
Township officials thank residents for their patience as the work is completed, saying the upgrades will help improve infrastructure in the downtown area. Updates will be shared on the township’s website as the project moves forward.
