Residents in Bayfield will have an opportunity to learn important mental health support skills through a special training workshop next week.
The Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health is hosting a Mental Health First Aid workshop on May 26th in Bayfield. The training is designed to help people recognize and respond to signs of mental health or substance use challenges in their community.
Project lead and certified Mental Health First Aid facilitator Grace Bonnet explains what participants of the course will learn.
The workshop will focus on recognizing signs of declining mental well-being, learning how to have supportive conversations, and connecting people with local, regional, and provincial mental health resources and services.
Participants will also learn about self-care and ways to maintain their own mental wellness while supporting others.
Bonnet says the course is interactive and open to anyone interested in improving their understanding of mental health and substance use issues.
Bonnet says the training is especially important in rural communities.
Registration for the workshop is required and remains open until May 22nd, although space is limited. The cost is $200 per person.
Residents can register through the Gateway Centre of Excellence in Rural Health website.
