The Municipality of Lambton Shores has received $75,000 in funding to help continue work on the Downtown Forest Parkette Project.
The funding comes from The Judith & Norman Alix Foundation and will support the construction of a permanent outdoor stage at the new community space in downtown Forest.
Mayor Doug Cook says the project will help create more opportunities for community events, performances, and local celebrations.
Council purchased two vacant lots on King Street West in early 2024 with plans to turn the area into a gathering place for residents and visitors.
Since then, municipal staff, council members, and community groups have worked together to help design the space and decide what features would best serve the public.
The first phase of the project included utility work, paving, and restoring part of the site. Work now underway in the second phase includes landscaping and new features such as flower planters, lighting, shaded seating areas, bike racks, and a bike repair station.
Plans for the permanent outdoor stage will move into the design phase next month. Officials say the stage will become a central feature for future programming and community events at the parkette.
More information about the project is available through the Municipality of Lambton Shores website.
