Young cyclists in Goderich will have a chance to sharpen their riding skills and learn about bicycle safety at a special community event next month.
Members of the Huron County OPP are partnering with local organizations to host a Bicycle Safety Day on Saturday, June 6th. The event is aimed at children between the ages of 5 and 10 who already have basic cycling skills.
The program is being organized with support from the Goderich Canadian Tire store, the Town of Goderich, the Miller Group, and New Hope Bicycles through its Ride Smart Program.
A cycling skills course will be set up where children can practice safe riding techniques and learn more about bicycle safety in their communities. Volunteers will also be available to help with proper bike fitting and minor bicycle tune-ups.
Participants must be accompanied by an adult and are required to bring a properly fitted bicycle and helmet. Pre-registration is required and can be completed at the Goderich Canadian Tire store before the event.
Check-in will take place in front of the store from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m., with the skills course running from 10 a.m. until noon.
A free barbecue lunch will follow, and several lucky participants will have a chance to win prizes through a random draw.
Organizers say the event is a fun way for children to build confidence on their bikes while learning important safety skills. A rain date has been scheduled for Sunday, June 7th.
