It’s been more than a month since the nomination period for the upcoming municipal election opened. More local candidates are stepping forward as the nomination period continues for Ontario’s 2026 municipal elections.
In South Huron, the race for mayor currently includes incumbent George Finch, along with Maureen Cole and Ted Oke. Jim Dietrich has filed nomination papers for deputy mayor.
In Ward 1, Patti Desjardine-Soer, Wendy McLeod-Haggitt, and Marissa Vaughan have entered the race for council. In Ward 2, Daryl Demaray, Antonio Munion, and Aaron Neeb have all put their names forward for a council seat.
In Bluewater, several candidates have already joined the race. Paul Klopp has filed for mayor, while Bill Whetstone is seeking the deputy mayor position. Council candidates include Michal DeCorte for Bayfield Ward, Peter Walden for Stanley East Ward, and Winona Sangster for Zurich Ward.
In Lambton Shores, Doug Cook has entered the race for mayor. Dan Sageman has filed for deputy mayor.
Several council positions in Lambton Shores have also attracted candidates. David (DJ) Pugh is running in Ward 4, Suzanne Shea has filed in Ward 5, and Dave Marsh has entered the race in Ward 6.
A number of council seats across Lambton Shores remain without candidates at this time, including Wards 1, 2, 3, and 7.
Nominations remain open, and additional candidates are expected to file before the deadline. Municipal elections across Ontario will take place on October 26th, 2026.
