Cyclists of all skill levels are invited to take part in the third annual Thedford Big Gravel Grind this July 5th .
The popular cycling event is organized by the Bluewater Cycling Organization and will take place in and around Thedford. myFM spoke with Operations Manager Kendall Ross who told us more about the event.
Participants can choose from four different route lengths, including 20-kilometre, 40-kilometre, 60-kilometre, and 80-kilometre options, and is open to all skill levels.
Ross says the event continues to grow each year thanks to strong community support and positive feedback from participants.
Ross says riders can expect a welcoming atmosphere, rest stops along the route, refreshments, and lunch after the ride.
The event also serves as a fundraiser for an important cause.
The ride was created in memory of Jamie Hastings, a well-known member of the Sarnia community who was known for his positive attitude and kindness. Organizers continue to honour his legacy through the Jamie Hastings Award, which recognizes participants who demonstrate the same spirit of encouragement and community during the event.
Registration is available online through the Bluewater Cycling Organization website. Participants are encouraged to register early and are invited to make a weekend of their visit by exploring local businesses and attractions in Thedford and nearby Grand Bend.
The event will take place rain or shine, provided conditions remain safe for riders.
