Residents in southern Huron County are being advised to prepare for potentially severe weather tonight.
Environment Canada has issued a Special Weather Statement for Goderich, Bluewater, and southern Huron County, warning of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and the risk of severe thunderstorms.
The weather system is expected to move into the area later this afternoon or early this evening and continue through the overnight hours.
Forecasters say wind gusts could reach between 70 and 90 kilometres per hour, with even stronger gusts possible in thunderstorms. Rainfall amounts of more than 40 millimetres are also possible.
Environment Canada says showers will begin this afternoon before becoming heavier as a strong low-pressure system approaches the region. Heavy rain and damaging winds are expected to be the main threats.
Officials note that weather watches or warnings may be issued as the storm system develops and its path becomes clearer.
