Residents in South Huron, Bluewater, Goderich and across Huron County are being urged to keep an eye on the sky as Environment Canada has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for the area.
Forecasters say conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms this afternoon and evening. The storms could bring wind gusts of up to 90 kilometres per hour, hail as large as a toonie, and there is also a risk of a tornado.
Environment Canada says showers and thunderstorms are expected to strengthen early this afternoon, increasing the risk of severe weather across the region.
Strong winds and large hail could cause damage and may lead to localized power outages.
Residents are encouraged to secure loose outdoor items and be prepared to take shelter if threatening weather approaches. Emergency Management Ontario advises people to move to a basement or an interior room away from windows if a storm develops. Those outdoors should seek shelter immediately and protect themselves from flying debris and hail.
