The Ontario Plowmen’s Association says it remains committed to bringing the 2027 International Plowing Match and Rural Expo to Lambton County.
The statement comes after the local organizing committee announced it was withdrawing its offer to host the event.
The Ontario Plowmen’s Association says the International Plowing Match has been an important part of Ontario’s farming history since 1913 and has only been cancelled during the World Wars and the COVID-19 pandemic. The organization says the event brings millions of dollars to local economies and provides a major boost for host communities.
The association also points to the lasting impact of the 1991 International Plowing Match in Lambton County, saying it helped generate more than $150,000 in scholarships for local students.
Officials say they were disappointed that the local committee’s announcement came before discussions with the provincial board had taken place. They believe any concerns should be addressed through open communication between both groups.
The Ontario Plowmen’s Association says it plans to meet with the local committee, sponsors, community partners, and other stakeholders over the coming weeks to discuss a path forward.
The association says its goal is to continue working toward hosting the 2027 International Plowing Match in Lambton County while protecting the long-standing tradition and reputation of the event.
