The Huron Chamber of Commerce is warning local businesses and residents about fraudulent emails that appear to come from Chamber members or community partners.
The fake emails have used subject lines such as “Strategic Partnership Collaboration Proposal” and often include unexpected business proposals or request-for-proposal (RFP) documents, even though no previous conversation has taken place.
The Chamber is reminding people to be cautious if they receive an unusual email. Do not open attachments, click on links, reply to the message, or forward it to others. Instead, delete the email right away.
If you are unsure whether an email is real, contact the person or organization directly by phone or by starting a new email. Do not reply to the suspicious message.
The Chamber also recommends that anyone concerned about the security of their email account contact their IT department or email service provider for help.
