The Huron County Food Bank Distribution Centre is getting ready for its biggest fundraiser of the year.
The 13th annual Better Together Gala takes place this Wednesday at the South Huron Recreation Centre in Exeter. Executive Director Chris Allan says the event has moved this year.
Guests can enjoy a barbecue dinner from Pine Ridge BBQ, along with Cowbell products at the cash bar. The entertainment will be provided by Great Canadian Dueling Pianos, who will mix songs together based on requests from the crowd.
There will also be both live and silent auctions, with some big prizes up for grabs. Items include local sightseeing flights, a Yeti cooler, a comfortable camping chair and tickets to see the Detroit Red Wings.
One of the biggest prizes is a trip for two to the 2026 Grey Cup in Calgary. The package includes flights, hotel accommodations and tickets to the game at McMahon Stadium.
Allan says the Better Together Gala is important because it helps the food bank continue providing support to people across Huron County.
He says the need for food assistance continues to grow, and the food bank is looking for ways to raise more money so it can keep up with demand.
Last year’s gala raised more than $50,000, and Allan hopes this year’s event can bring in even more.
Allan says people who cannot attend the gala can still help in many ways.
With more people turning to the food bank for help, Allan says every bit of support makes a difference.
