Construction continues on Main Street in Exeter, but local businesses say there are some positive changes for drivers and customers.
Caroline Hill, Business Manager with the Exeter BIA, says contractors have been working closely with local businesses to help reduce the impact of the construction.
Hill says business owners have been happy with how approachable the contractors have been.
Main Street is now open to traffic in both northbound and southbound directions. Transport trucks are still not allowed on Main Street unless they are making deliveries and are being asked to continue using the posted detour.
Hill says the opening of Main Street in both directions has made a big difference for businesses.
There are still some changes drivers should know about. People heading to the LCBO are asked to use Hill Street or Victoria Street, with access from Andrew Street and Wellington Street.
Hill says another construction project is also affecting Exeter’s north end.
Hill is reminding residents that while construction can be inconvenient, shopping locally is more important than ever.
She says businesses will continue to feel the effects of the work, so residents are encouraged to keep visiting local stores and restaurants whenever possible.
Main Street construction remains on schedule according to Hill.
Hill says Exeter businesses appreciate the community’s continued support while the construction work continues.
