Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson is encouraging local communities and organizations to apply for funding through Ontario’s Community Sport and Recreation Infrastructure Fund.
The latest round of the program opened for applications on August 17 and will provide $100 million in funding. Applications will be accepted until December 22, 2026.
The provincial program supports projects that build, repair and improve local sport and recreation facilities.
The total fund has grown from $200 million to $500 million through the province’s latest budget. The goal is to help communities create better spaces for people to stay active, make sports more accessible and support local jobs.
The first round of the program supported nearly 100 projects across Ontario, including 17 new facilities and upgrades to 77 existing facilities.
Funding is available to municipalities, Indigenous communities and non-profit organizations. For new facilities, some for-profit organizations can also apply.
There are two funding streams. The first supports repairs and upgrades to existing sport and recreation facilities. The second supports new and major sport and recreation facilities.
Thompson says the funding can help communities create places where families can stay active and where athletes can train and compete.
