Nominations are now open for the Huron County Accessibility Awards.
The Huron County Accessibility Advisory Committee gives out the awards each year to recognize people and organizations working to improve accessibility and make the community more inclusive.
The Sandra Thompson Memorial Accessibility Champion Award recognizes an individual who has shown a strong commitment to improving accessibility and supporting people with disabilities. The award was created in 2022 in memory of Sandra Thompson, a longtime accessibility advocate and former Accessibility Coordinator for the County of Huron.
The Award of Merit for Barrier-Free Access recognizes efforts to create spaces, products or services that are more accessible. It has two categories: Public, for government, non-profit organizations and public institutions, and Business, for private businesses that are working to make their services and spaces more welcoming and accessible.
Residents are encouraged to nominate someone they feel deserves to be recognized.
Nominations must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. Sunday, September 27th.
