Families in Huron and Perth counties now have another way to get help with concerns about their child’s education.
The Ontario government is expanding Student and Family Support Offices to all 72 school boards across the province.
The Huron-Perth Catholic District School Board and Avon Maitland District School Board now have their own Student and Family Support Offices.
The offices are designed to give parents and families a clear way to raise concerns, get information and find solutions to more complex issues.
Huron-Bruce MPP Lisa Thompson says the new offices will make sure families have a direct way to have their concerns heard and addressed.
Perth-Wellington MPP Matthew Rae says parents should be informed and involved when it comes to their children and their schools.
The offices are meant to help with concerns that have already been discussed with a child’s teacher and principal but still need further attention.
The school boards aim to acknowledge a family’s inquiry within two business days and provide an answer within five business days. More complicated issues may take longer, but families should be given an estimated timeline for a response.
The province says the offices have already been used by other school boards. So far, 95 per cent of family inquiries have been acknowledged within two business days, while nearly 90 per cent have received a response within five business days or an estimated response date.
