As part of 90.5 myFM’s 2026 Election Coverage, myFM reached out to candidates in South Huron, Bluewater, Lambton Shores and Lucan-Biddulph to hear why they believe residents should vote for them on October 26th.
Here’s what Emilly Girodat running for Ward 1 in South Huron had to say.
TRANSCRIBED AUDIO:
“I live, work and raise my family right here in South Huron. I listen to neighbours and community members talk about their worries and their hopes for our municipality. I’m running because I want to make sure everyday voices are heard and that our community remains a thriving, affordable place not only to live but succeed. I’m not a politician and honestly, I don’t think any of us want more politics at Town Hall. We just need regular people who understand everyday life.
As a local insurance advisor, my whole job is sitting down with families, listening to what keeps you up at night and helping you plan for the future. I’ve loved giving back where I can, whether that’s helping out on parent council at my daughter’s school or volunteering with the Exeter Fastball League. For me, running for council is just the next step.
I think it’s time for a healthy change. Bringing in a fresh perspective isn’t about erasing the past. It’s about breathing new life into the future. If we’re all being honest, it’s never just one thing, is it? We have a lot on our plate right now, but we can absolutely tackle it if we use some common sense.
For me, it comes down to smart balance. We need true financial responsibility with your tax dollars while still finding ways to encourage local growth. That means expanding our programming and making things more accessible for everyone, from our youngest kids to our seniors. As South Huron grows, we just need to make sure nobody gets left behind. I think it’s time for a healthy change.
Bringing in a fresh perspective isn’t about erasing the past. It’s about breathing new life into the future. If that’s what you want out of a counselor, I’d be incredibly grateful for your vote.”
