TRANSCRIBED AUDIO:
“Hello, I’m Dan Sageman and I have been Lambton Shores Deputy Mayor for four years. Before that, I was Lambton Shores Ward 2 Councillor for eight years. I am now running for re-election as your Deputy Mayor. I would like to thank myFM for offering this opportunity to speak to you and I’d to thank the voters of Lambton Shores for trusting me as your Deputy Mayor for the last four years. I’d like to tell you a little bit about my background and why I think I am the most qualified candidate for Deputy Mayor.
I have lived in Lambton Shores for most of my 52 years. In fact, my family has been a part of this community since the 1950s. After university, my wife Erin and I chose to return home to Lambton Shores to begin our careers and raise a family. We have two children that attended Grand Med Public School and North Lambton Secondary School, and Erin taught at Kinwood Central in Forest for 15 years. We have family in Forest and many friends and connections in between.
Being connected is vitally important when making decisions that affect the entire municipality, as well as understanding the unique issues that affect the individual communities that make up Lambton Shores. At the University of Waterloo, I earned a degree in Urban and Regional Planning. I worked for the Township of Bosanquet and the village of Grand Bend as a junior planner until Lambton Shores was created in 2001. My experience as a planner and working for a municipality has proven invaluable in my three terms on council. I have a deep understanding of how municipal government works, and what our abilities and responsibilities are as counselors to keep moving Lambton Shores forward. After amalgamation, I partnered in a successful construction company and have had the pleasure of meeting new customers and working on many projects right here in Lambton Shores. Over 25 years of business experience has given me the skills necessary to set goals and priorities, understand budgeting, and manage personnel. Above all else, I have learned the value of collaborating with people to successfully reach common goals.
For the last four years, I’ve been the chair of the board of directors for the Bluewater Recycling Association, helped and lead the organization through the hiring of a new CEO and the implementation of the new provincial recycling system. I have also served as vice chair of the Grand Bend Area Community Healthcare Center. And I’m proud to say that our board was able to secure almost $2 million in funding that will see eventually 3,800 patients attached to a primary care physician. We have used those dollars to hire doctors, nurse practitioners and support staff. This is not just Grand Bend, but all areas in the N0M postal code. With my unique skill set, I have a successful track record of helping move projects forward and of helping individuals and groups navigate levels of government to get information and bring ideas to reality. I am not a single issue candidate. I am not mad about anything. I simply want to do my best for you. We have many issues coming up in the next four years, both municipally and at the county level.
Affordability, responsible budgeting to make the most of your tax dollars, affordable housing, the attraction of new businesses and new jobs, and the retention of existing businesses and jobs. And finally, new assessment values from MPAC, to name a few. To navigate these issues, you need experienced candidates looking at your best interests. I know with your support, we can accomplish these goals together.
Thank you so much for your time. On October 26, please vote Sageman for Deputy Mayor of Lambton Shores.”
