A popular fundraiser supporting the Huron Country Playhouse is almost sold out.
The Huron Country Playhouse Guild is hosting its annual fashion show and silent auction on Wednesday, bringing the community together for an evening of food, shopping, prizes and fun.
Guild President Kate McKenzie told myFM about the event.
The fundraiser is especially important for the Guild, which has been supporting the Huron Country Playhouse for 55 years.
McKenzie says there is a first for the Fashion Show part of the evening this year.
The Guild has also made a $250,000 pledge toward the theatre’s new artist residence, which has been built behind the Playhouse. So far, $135,000 has been raised and donated toward that pledge. The Guild says the goal is to raise money while creating a fun night for the community.
The fashion show and silent auction is the Guild’s biggest fundraiser of the year, and tickets are selling quickly. Organizers say there are only about 40 tickets left out of 300.
Guests can expect items ranging from restaurant gift certificates and facials to wine, a kayak and a Coach purse.
The evening begins at 5:45 p.m. with the silent auction. A “Buy It Now” option will also be available for guests who see an item they really want and would rather purchase it instead of continuing to bid. Appetizers will be served throughout the evening, and a bar will also be available.
McKenzie says supporting local theatre also has a wider impact on the community.
Tickets must be purchased in advance and are available through the Huron Country Playhouse website.
The Guild is also welcoming new members. Membership is $30 a year, plus a one-time $25 fee for a name badge. Members help with the theatre shop, summer raffle ticket sales and fundraising events.
The Guild says it is focused on making volunteering a fun and social experience while continuing to support the Huron Country Playhouse.
The event kicks off at 5:45pm at the Playhouse on Wednesday.
