The Huron County OPP is inviting residents to get a closer look at policing through its first annual Citizens Police Academy.
The free program will give selected applicants a chance to learn about police work through interactive sessions led by officers and specialists from different areas of the OPP.
Constable Craig Soldan says the academy is a good opportunity for people to learn about the work officers do and explore the different career paths available within the organization.
Soldan says the sessions will give participants a better understanding of the daily challenges and responsibilities that come with policing.
The academy is open to community-minded adults aged 18 and older.
The program runs Wednesday evenings from October 28th to December 2nd, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Huron OPP detachment, located at 325 Albert Street in Clinton. There will be no session on November 11th for Remembrance Day.
Applicants are encouraged to attend all five sessions to get the most out of the experience.
Applications must be submitted online by October 19th. Residents can apply by scanning the QR code on the OPP’s promotional materials or using the application link shared by the Huron OPP. More information is also available through OPP West Region’s Facebook and Instagram pages.
People with questions can contact the Huron OPP detachment in Clinton at 519-482-1677.
Soldan, who has worked with the Huron OPP for nearly 28 years, says policing has been a fulfilling career. He encourages anyone curious about the job to take advantage of the academy and learn more about the opportunities available.
