A 40-year-old Bayfield man has been charged after police say he nearly struck an OPP officer during a traffic stop on Highway 21.
Huron County OPP say the incident happened shortly before 9 a.m. on Friday, October 16th, just south of Goderich in the Municipality of Bluewater.
An officer was conducting traffic enforcement as part of Operation Safe Haul and had stopped a vehicle with the emergency lights on the fully marked police cruiser activated.
Police say a vehicle travelling in the opposite direction began passing another vehicle, nearly hitting the officer. Officers later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop.
The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act for failing to slow down and proceed with caution when approaching an emergency vehicle.
OPP remind drivers that when approaching or passing an emergency vehicle or tow truck with its lights activated, they must slow down or move over when it is safe to do so.
Police say following this rule helps protect emergency workers and other people on the road.
