It’s small business week here on myFM!
A hobby that started during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a local business for MTG North Games, bringing together a love of collecting cards and a passion for making customers happy.
Co-owner Morgan McEllistrum told myFM how the business began.
As their channel gained subscribers and views, they began offering a service through Patreon. Members could buy packs at prices below market value and watch as their cards were opened on YouTube. The cards were then shipped to them at the end of each month.
Eventually, the pair decided to open a physical store. Having a storefront gave them access to product distributors and helped them offer better prices to their customers.
As the business grew, McEllistrum says one of the biggest challenges was finding employees who shared their interest in the products they sold.
He told myFM abouut the moment he knew the business had made it.
McEllistrum says being a small business owner in Huron County means more than selling products.
For McEllistrum, the most rewarding part of owning the business is simple: making people happy.
He says one thing people may not realize about running a business is how much time it takes.
He has this advice for those wanting to start a business.
