Construction on Main Street in Exeter continues to move forward, with the new watermain now in service.
The Municipality of South Huron says the contractor completed testing and preparation work on the watermain this week. Base asphalt has also been placed on the east side of Main Street, and work has started on new sidewalks.
Crews have also begun transferring water services to the new watermain and connecting it to side streets.
This week, work will continue on the water service transfers, removal of the temporary watermain and installation of new sidewalks.
One lane of traffic in each direction will remain open on Main Street until the project is complete. A one-day detour onto William Street may also be needed.
Businesses remain open during construction, and access to homes and businesses will be maintained as much as possible.
Drivers are asked to plan ahead and expect delays while work continues. The municipality thanks residents and businesses for their patience and understanding.
