David Manders says improving communication between the municipality and residents will be one of his priorities after being elected the new mayor of Lucan-Biddulph.
Manders won tonight’s municipal election by a narrow margin, receiving 1,172 votes compared to Paul Hodgins’ 1,142 votes.
The municipality was set to welcome a new mayor after incumbent Cathy Burghardt-Jesson announced she would not seek re-election for the 2026-2030 term.
Joining Manders on the new council will be Deputy Mayor Daniel Regan, who received 1,398 votes.
Ken Hoggart was elected councillor for Ward 1 with 493 votes. Allan Cunningham was acclaimed as Ward 2 councillor, meaning he will take the seat without a contested vote.
In Ward 3, Alex Westman was elected councillor with 334 votes.
Manders says he heard concerns from residents during his campaign about how information is shared and how easy it is to find details about council decisions.
Manders says residents want it to be easier to follow council agendas, understand what happens at meetings and learn about decisions affecting their community.
He says listening to residents will be important as the new council begins its term.
Manders also thanked residents for their support and says he wants to continue moving Lucan-Biddulph in a positive direction.
He says the community has a lot to offer and he wants to help keep it a great place to live.
Manders will serve as mayor for the 2026-2030 council term.
