A Norfolk County man is facing several charges following an impaired driving investigation involving an electric bicycle in downtown Simcoe.
Norfolk County OPP say an officer was on patrol in the early morning hours on Saturday when they observed someone operating an e-bike near the intersection of Robinson Street and Colborne Street.
The officer subsequently stopped the rider on West Street.
Following an interaction with the individual, which included a roadside sobriety test, the officer placed the rider under arrest without incident.
Police allege the individual also caused damage to OPP property following the arrest.
As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old Norfolk County resident has been charged with operation while impaired with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit, failing to stop at a stop sign, failing to stop at a red light and mischief under $5,000.
The charges have not been proven in court.
Police are reminding the public to report suspected impaired drivers or vehicle operators.
Anyone who observes someone they believe may be operating a vehicle while impaired is encouraged to contact police by calling 911.
